An Open Letter to Those Who Persecute Us Preface:
We are China House Church Christians. Nowadays, our church is suffering the serious persecution triggered by China government. The leader of church Xu-Shuangfu, a faithful servant of God who has spent more than 20 years totally in jail in the past were kidnapped together with other fellow workers by Chinese policemen. Thereinto a brother named Gu-Xianggao was cruelly beaten to death on the next day after being seized who really died for the Word and his faith.
To the persecutors:
We neither know your name, the experiences you have had, nor you have loved or hated in the past, but we know that you are a human being who was created in the image of God, having a precious and eternal soul. At one point you were young and innocent, with great ambition. You may be a son, husband, or father. You love your family and desire affection. You honor your parents, care for your wife, and labor diligently to raise your children; the same as hundreds of thousands of good Christians. Indeed you are a living being with a body of flesh and bones. You are subject to disease as well as vanity, and other human frailties. You do not know what tomorrow will bring. You do not know when old age will whiten your hair, or when your time will come. Perhaps in a moment you will be in a car accident, or perhaps your body will be overcome by cancer…There are many possibilities. But you are moving inevitably towards the grave, death and hell. When you awake from the dream of this life, you will find yourself in darkness, facing the judgment of God.
You pitiful people, you are merely a piece of the national machine. You are a tool in the hands of the ruling class, a means of protecting the interests of those above you. Do you think that those whom you persecute are nothing more than a defenseless group who do not return evil from evil? No, you are standing in opposition to God, and you are persecuting His people. You are not in defiance of man, but of God and of truth. In mainland China there are countless numbers of Christians attending church in their homes. Our brothers and sisters have had enough of your abuse, but we have never protested, never made any demonstrations or caused any trouble, and have never attacked or harmed anyone. This is not because we are afraid of you. If we were afraid, we would have lain aside our beliefs long ago.
Do you not understand? Can you not see that such suppressive persecution, we have not been weakened, but grown stronger and more powerful? Our weakness is because we believe that love can melt away hatred, and goodness can overcome evil. We will not exchange an eye for an eye, or a tooth for a tooth because we believe in justice. We believe that in the end, God will defend and redeem revenge by using suicide as a scare tactic, as the devil would have us do. If we were to be filled with hate, and not be long-suffering, can you imagine what would happen? Millions of people in China harboring hatred toward you, unsatisfied with society, and not afraid of death; what kind of life would you have then?
Is it the fault of the Christians who follow the example of the Lord Jesus by loving those who persecute them, who are patient and virtuous, that your oppression grows stronger? Is it because of the patience and kindness of these Christians that you think you can do as you please, that you assume you have such limitless power over them? If you propose to be just, why do you use such evil methods as kidnapping? Does this not confirm your fear, foolishness, subtlety, and cruelness? Does this not confirm that you are the enemy of truth and right?
You are but a pawn in the hands of the all powerful creator of heaven and earth. Today God has created this stage for us, and we will perform according to His will in order to gain the favor of Him and all His angels. However, we believe that the curtains of this stage will soon close, and the end will come. There will be no twists in the plot, or unexpected turns. This play is not meant to be wonderful. God has preserved the life of evil-doers in order to offset the goodness of His children. When the curtain finally closes on those wicked people, the destroying angel will come to take away the breath of life.
We truly take pity on you, we pray for you and hope that you can avoid the calamity that is to come. Because your souls are also precious, and God wishes for all men to repent, that not one person should be lost. You should wake up and ask yourselves, “Where is Mao Zedong?” Once viewed as a great deliverer of the people, whose days were without number. He who firmly believed that man would overcome the heavens. Have not the reality of his lies been made clear to the world with his death?
You can persecute us for the moment, mock our beliefs, despise our God, and disregard the eternal death and punishment of hell. You can believe that after death, everything is finished, that if you persecute us now, it will make to difference in the long run. You may think it has no effect, as if you had never done it. But can’t you see? All your subjective thinking cannot change reality. The crimes that you have committed are real. Evidence will be restored in the end to reveal the truth, and this will not all end with your death. You may have many of your own opinions, but one day you will see who sits upon the judgment seat, and who it is that been eternally condemned. God will treat you as you have treated His people.
This is not a threat, but a well-intentioned warning. If we wanted to threaten you, we would not do so in this manner. In the name of the Lord we call for you to cease your evil ways, for you are heaping the wrath of God upon yourselves, and invoking His anger. If you will cease from evil now, repent and accept salvation, God’s love is great and His mercies are abundant. His forgiveness is offered willingly. We do not hate you, but take pity on you. We despise your evil acts because we know that if you continue as an enemy of God, you will meet with a miserable end. Evil shall never overcome righteousness.
“As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.”---Psalms 73:20
