[1] Dalai Lama addresses Chinese students and scholars. “Decades of communist rule and the commercial activities in recent years, both driven by extreme materialism, be it communist or capitalist, are destroying much of China's spiritual and moral values. A huge spiritual and moral vacuum is thus being rapidly created in the Chinese society. In this situation, the Tibetan Buddhist culture and philosophy would be able to serve millions of Chinese brothers and sisters in their search for moral and spiritual values.”

[2] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 36th, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 1995 “Tibet's spiritual and cultural traditions have contributed to peace in Asia. Buddhism not only turned Tibetans into a peace loving nation following a period of great military might, but also spread from the Himalayas to Mongolia and other places in Central Asia and provided millions of people with a spiritual foundation of peace and tolerance. Buddhism is not alien to China, and I strongly believe that Buddhism can be of great service in providing spiritual values, peace of mind, contentment and self-discipline to millions of Chinese in the future.”

[3] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 37th, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 1996 “if our Buddhist culture can flourish once again in Tibet, we are confident of being able to make a significant contribution to millions of our Chinese brothers and sisters by sharing with them those spiritual and moral values which are so clearly lacking in China today.”

[4] Statement of Dalai Lama on His Visit to the United States, September 1995 “But it is very dangerous to feed only the outer hunger for material things because that leads to corruption and anarchy. The inner life --- the spirit of a person -- must be fed too, so that there is a balance. In achieving this balance, I believe we Tibetans can play a helpful role by sharing our spiritual insight and knowledge with our Chinese brothers and sisters.”

[5] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 21st, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 1980 “Never has there been so much s-y-stematic and extensive destruction of the religious, cultural, social and educational values of the Tibetan people. The frightening picture of object poverty, wretched and helpless general conditions, persistent starvation and famine, had never been experienced in Tibet for centuries. ”

[6] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 49st, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 2008 “Till now the number of Tibetans who were killed in action, who were executed, who died through starvation, who were tortured to death, and who were driven to suicide in order to escape a hellish existence, all add up to about one million. ”

[7] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 4st, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 1964 “The free nations of the world have rightly condemned the suppression of the coloured people in South Africa, but the form of oppression and persecution which the Chinese invaders have adopted against the people of Tibet are a thousand times worse than the s-y-stem of apartheid ”。

[8] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 39th. Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 1998 “the Chinese have killed, tortured, raped and robbed the Tibetan people. An estimated 1.2 million Tibetans have died as a result of the Chinese occupation, and more than six thousand monasteries, temples, forts and other historic landmarks, the repository of our ancient civilization, have been destroyed, desecrated and plundered. I was forced to flee into exile in 1959.”

[9] His Holiness the Dalai Lamas nobel lecture University Aula Oslo, December 11th, 1989 “ Tibetans have been deprived of their most basic human rights, including the right to life, movement, speech, worship, only to mention a few. More than one sixth of Tibet's population of six million died as a direct result of the Chinese invasion and occupation. Even before the Cultural Revolution started, many of Tibet's monasteries, temples and historic buildings were destroyed. Almost everything that remained was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.”

[10] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 43st, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 2002 “I believe that many of the violations of human rights in Tibet are the result of suspicion, lack of trust and true understanding of Tibetan culture and religion. ”

[11] The Statement of Dalai Lama on the 11st, Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 1971 “A thousand more uprisings may take place and a thousand times the Chinese may crush them, but they will never be able to break the spirit of liberty that resides in each one of us. My people will carry on the struggle till we see Tibet once again in its rightful place among the independent nations of this world.”
