貌强：CNF Peace-Talks with the Burma’s Junta

by Burma's Chinese minority

According to UNPO, Dr. Sui Khar, Joint General Secretary of CNF ( Chin National Front ) is leading a 10-member peace-talk delegation to Rih, an Indo-Burmese border town of Chin State. They will begin peace negotiation on Thursday, March 15, with the Defence Service Military security of the Burmese regime.

According to Chinland news, originally the meeting was planned in the Chin State Capital Haka .

According to BURMA-UNPO, the CNF was formed in 1989 by Chin student activists and intellectuals to fight against the military dictatorship for Chin people’s self determination and for restoration of democracy. It has armed force and has been fighting for self-determination and calling for national reconciliation thruogh tripartite dialogue between the ruling junta, the 1990 election winning party _NLD and ethnic nationalities until now.

Chin Christian and peace organizations have asked for a possible negotiation since more than a decade.A precondition placed by the junta is " lay down arms in exchange for peace." That was unacceptable from the CNF side.

Under the efforts of the peace commission led by Pu Chawn Kio and other Chin influential elders among the Chin community, CNF began this first step. Before its departure, CNF Central Executive Committee assured the Chin people and its alliance, the ethnic nationalities that CNF will insist on the common principles and will not damage the interest of Chin and all other ethnic peoples.

The CNF is a member of UNPO, the democratic international membership organisation which ,by means of non-violence and tolerance, protects members’ human right and cultural right, preserves members’ environments and struggles for democracy and self-determination.
